Boundaries: The Experience- Art and Phenomenological!

June 16, 2012 by susanmoirmackay

Last night I had disturbed dreams, flashes of colour, an intense vision of looking through back lit trees in a dark night – a vivid green, lime and yellow flashing across my eyes.  There was some feeling of connecting the pieces we had made earlier at the hall in L’Utopia with this ephemeral, translucent colour. And so another Wednesday night spent restlessly, resulting in getting up and reading till 5.30am in an attempt to draw myself back into sleep. Was I over […]

Portrait: Friends with perspective

July 15, 2011 by susanmoirmackay

I have been struggling again with the concept of finding a commonality for all the portraits, feeling often overwhelmed by perceived cruelty.  Looking at the world after my post about fear and being given examples to disprove my theory.  Violence seeming to be a staple of being human. And I have been thinking about friends and friendships. A friend laments that we are all too busy to spend time like we did when we are school.  THis fast paced efficient […]

fear as a taught response – an inability to live the “no”?

July 13, 2011 by susanmoirmackay

ok this really does not have anything to do with art perse, other than a perspective, an understanding about reality…. I love walking the beach on my own in the dark at night.  It is one of my favourite things to do.  Many people warn me though, and are afraid for me.  For some reason I have little fear.  I cant genuinely say NO fear, as sometimes prickles of fear crawl over and under my skin.  But for the most part my […]

life keeps getting in the way of observing life

July 12, 2011 by susanmoirmackay

I have moved my work to the Atelier at L’utopia. Its exciting and scary to move…..The biggest challenge i have is getting out there, i am used to working on a whim at home. Life is hot and busy.  The kids are in Canada…..but as usual dont feel like i have had enough time to relax into the break in routine. Had a fascinating conversation with T. G. on FB tonight.  She is a recently graduated artist working in new […]

there is no sin

July 4, 2011 by susanmoirmackay

So after all my thoughts trying to make sense of the energy of censorship and the reality of sex/ making love.  I cant help but think about morals. I recently re watched the fascinating TED talk by Patricia Burchatt about dark energy and dark matter.  It intrigues me to imagine that (although it is all currently theoretical), the basic premise based on the evidence that they have, is that beyond the small percentage of matter, earth, us, trees, planets, stars etc, the […]

censorship

June 29, 2011 by susanmoirmackay

Last week I had a small gathering chez nous to show my Freeport friends the pieces ”Psyche Pollution’,  ’21 Religious Thoughts…..’ and ‘Disparity Reality – Woman’ .   The point of the evening was to incite conversation about some of the issues raised in the work.  For example carbon footprint, what does it mean to be a woman, and our inner psychological reality affecting our outer environment. Upon setting up the work “Psyche Pollution” in our dinning room cove, (this work was a response […]

pornography/ making love

June 9, 2011 by susanmoirmackay

Cardinal Sin 3—Lust (Sex / Making Love / Pornography) “Pornography is the attempt to insult sex, to do dirt on it.”—D.H. Lawrence. Body image continues as a theme, in the realm of sex, sexuality and pornography. An act that is imbued with love has become a place of degradation—misogyny and self-hatred. In Tantric tradition sex is seen as a holy act between two people irrespective of body shape or age. Images of humans and the gods show the divine nature […]

process- seeds- life- chaos – growth

May 23, 2011 by susanmoirmackay

So a couple of months ago the kids and I bought some of those tiny little pre dried compost.  You have to pour water on them, and they balloon out and then in the moist earth mini towers they become you pop in the seeds.  We had tomato, basil, cucumbers, catnip for kiki our cat, sweet pea, and some other flowers.  We were super excited when they began to sprout.  It seemed so incredible that from those hard minute objects, we could witness […]

I digress…how typical!

March 10, 2011 by susanmoirmackay

there is darkness.  There is light. We seem to have vilified darkness as the home of the demons and devils.  We on our journey to ‘enlightenment’ fight against the image of night.  But i never understood as i love darkness. I love its mystery. Its magic. So learning about the black velvet void, i wonder.  It is a place filled with potential, like an alchemists crucible it is a an empty space that can transform. A gave us a mini lecture about […]

mystery – portraits of life and death

January 10, 2011 by susanmoirmackay

“Living whilst dying – Dying whilst living” is the name of one of the pieces I did for Paradox.  It fascinated me to think how we are perpetually in those two states, yet more pointed when faced with a terminal illness. Yesterday I went to Leo’s funeral.  A shocking death. As unexpected as death can be.  An elegant death, if death can ever be such a thing? The church service was full of catholic warnings of sins and hell.   I […]
